Specifically, in the external characteristics of a person in the third age there is a loss of muscle mass, an increase in adipose tissue, a decrease in height and a possible kyphotic posture (due to a decrease in bone mass), limited joint mobility, reduced flexibility and instability. Exercise in the Third Age helps to keep in good condition, not only the motor functions of the person, but also the vision and hearing.
The cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal system improves, increasing muscle mass, joint agility, bone strength. Exercise strengthens, helps the person to have a sense of their body and improves their balance, making them less prone to falls and limit the risk of injury, relieves or even prevents joint pain.
Exercising in a group (e.g. dance or yoga class) contributes to the creation of interpersonal relationships, which are necessary to feel happy.
